What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the most extensively researched and evidence-based psychological therapies available. It works on the principle that our thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviours are interconnected, and that unhelpful patterns in any one of these areas can maintain psychological distress. CBT is collaborative, structured and goal-focused, working with you to identify and change these patterns in practical, meaningful ways.

My approach:

As well as CBT, I also incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness, integrating whichever tools are most clinically relevant to you.

I hold a core belief that good therapy should make itself redundant. CBT was always a skill based model: the goal is to teach you to become your own therapist, to understand your patterns, challenge your thinking, and validate your own experiences without needing to rely on someone else to do it for you.

I actively work against long term dependency. I want you to leave the process feeling confident that if the difficulties, triggers, thoughts arise again, that you can effectively manage them with the skills you learnt in this process. That does not mean endings are abrupt, periodic check-ins are normal, and something I offer too.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) & Mindfulness

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a unique and creative model for therapy and coaching, based on the use of mindfulness and values. ACT helps you to develop psychological flexibility, allowing you to move toward what matters most to you, even in the presence of difficult thoughts and feelings.

Mindfulness is the practice of purposely bringing one's attention to experiences occurring in the present moment without judgment. It is a key component of many evidence-based therapies and can be highly effective in reducing stress and improving emotional regulation.

Qualifications & Accreditation

I am a qualified psychotherapist. I was accredited in CBT psychotherapy in 2021 and since built extensive experience in CBT within different clinical settings and working with different presenting difficulties.

Alongside direct clinical work, I have held Clinical Lead and Service Director roles, giving me experience not only delivering therapy but in shaping how services are run, supervised, and held to a high clinical standard.
